Windows XP SP2 Released
Finally!
After so much "Coming Soon" messages, it's finally out. But if you plan to just update a single computer, you'd still have to wait: it's still "coming soon". The network install of SP2 is available. However this is more than 270 MB in size and it took me more than 1:40 hours to download it.
I've been running the SP2 Technical Preview for almost two months now (see my earlier blog post) and I have been really impressed and have had no issues whatsoever. I just love it when MS gives us a major OS update with a facelift.
Here are some of the Security Related icons you will see after updating to SP2. (see tooltips)
Great job Microsoft, I'm awaiting for Longhorn!

Well... I think it is not good to jump into SP2 so early b'cos I did and had to rollback to SP1. :-(
I was using a mobile phone to connect to the internet using GPRS via IrDA. The EasyGPRS software was working fine until I install SP2 and after that it couldn't connect to the phone modem. I went to the microsoft site and found a long list of software having problems with SP2. Therefore, it is best to wait for SP3 and hope it will error free...

Most of these "Problems" you hear are because of the Windwos Firewall which is enabled by default in SP2.
I'm not sure whether this is the reason for your particular problem, but probaly the Windows Firewall is blocking a port required by your EasyGPRS software. You can easily fix this using Firewall settings.
Also what is the rational behind "wait for SP3"? If SP2 has problems, wouldn't SP3 have even more new ones?

The first thing I did was disable the Firewall but got no luck. Then I searched the internet and found that I'm not alone. Anyway, I'm OK with SP1 but I miss that more stylish firewall thing... :-)
I've mentioned about SP3 since MS introduced more complications to XP with their SP2 rather than solving them, they should release a patch or a complete pack (SP3 probably).
